The belief behind the brand

Motherhood should not be the reason you settle for a career you've outgrown.

You can love your children deeply and still want work that excites you. You can be grateful and still want change. You can be capable and still need a career that fits the life you are actually living.

Why I created The Rising MOM

I did not stop being ambitious. My definition of success changed.

I am Amanda Carmichael, a career identity and matrescence coach and the founder of The Rising MOM.

I spent more than a decade in the Royal Navy as a nuclear engineering submariner. I was trained to solve complex problems, perform under pressure and keep moving when the stakes were high.

Then motherhood changed the problem.

The career I had worked hard to build still looked successful — but it no longer fitted the woman I had become.

I realised I did not have a motivation problem or a time-management problem. I was trying to squeeze a changed identity back into an unchanged life.

The Rising MOM was built to help ambitious mothers understand who they have become first, then redesign their careers around that truth.

The Rising MOM thesis

The career advice we give mothers is not wrong. It is incomplete.

It assumes the woman making the next career decision is the same woman who built the last one. Motherhood can change your identity, priorities, capacity and definition of success. When those things change, the right starting point changes too.

Most career coaching asks, “What job do you want?” I start with, “Who have you become?” Identity comes first. The right career decision follows.

What it feels like to be coached by Amanda

Warm enough to feel held. Insightful enough to create change.

“I felt hand-held through what felt like a scary black box of the unknown.”

Amanda helped me reflect, untangle what I felt blocked on and feel clearer about where I was.

Jane
“I felt energised and positive after each session — and less tangled.”

Her questions were insightful and made it clear she understood what I was saying.

Rachel
“Supportive, empathetic, insightful and warm.”

I felt held in the session and that Amanda had my best interests in mind.

Is this the right fit?

This is not a quick career fix.

This may be for you if…

  • Your career still looks successful, but no longer feels fulfilling.
  • You want flexibility without giving up ambition or financial security.
  • You are ready to understand what has changed before making your next move.
  • You want thoughtful challenge, practical direction and accountability.

This may not be for you if…

  • You only want someone to rewrite your CV or choose a job for you.
  • You are looking for a one-size-fits-all productivity plan.
  • You are not ready to reflect honestly on what no longer fits.
  • You want advice without taking ownership of the decisions that follow.

You don't have to do this alone
